James paints with oil on canvas and also undertakes pencil drawings, all from life.
Portraits are given as a symbol of love, affection or gratitude.
They are treasured memories of weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions, retirement or to capture the fleeting moments of childhood.
How to Commission a Portrait
Initial Meeting:
This takes approximately 2 hours and is to discuss what you are looking for in a portrait such as the size and composition, formal or informal, pose and clothing.
A few sketches in pencil are done to give an idea of poses.
2nd Meeting:
More sketches are done and the pose finalised. The painting is now begun from life.
Further sittings of 2 - 3 hours with breaks may be needed to finish the painting.
Time Scale:
This ranges from 1 to 5 sessions depending on complexity and size of the painting
